But remember, there is no such thing as a seagull.
what>>>>???? well, there are actually about fifty gull species living in habitats all over the world, oceanic and otherwise. And none of these is actually a "seagull".
Who you calling a seagull?
Well, go ahead, call it what you like. My point - and that of other birdy pedants - is that by using more precise terms you can help discourage a tragic misconception: that there’s only one kind of seagull. The kind that nicks your sandwich and poops on your car, and is as common as muck, or even a "rat with wings". Some of the gulls are endangered, and needs that recognition, and anyway, each gull species is unique and deserves to be recognised as such.
