Now is the time of the stick

Out walking the other night looking for snakes - as you do in late May - instead I find a huge diversity of stick insects. I have been missing seeing these, as they are the first to go in the indiscriminate insecticide spraying. Their only defense against predation is to drop their legs, so that rules out world domination.
