THE DANCING BUTTERFLY

蛇目褐蜆蝶 Abisara echerius -- Plum Judy

Believe it or not: This is a small but striking butterfly found in Asia belonging to the Punches and Judies family (Riodinidae).

This butterfly lands and then often turns around almost immediately afterwards. It repeats this turning movement repeatedly. This may hep help in evading predators by causing confusion about head orientation. It does appear that this butterfly is dancing and helps in identifying the species from a distance.
