LIONS NATURE EDUCATION CENTRE in Sai Kung One of my fave places in Hong Kong for wildlife watching.....has got much better since I made this video to highlight some key issues there.....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KIOzSm_IPw However, questions remain about its habitat management....butterfly areas remain stagnant, or unwatered. The protected Birdwing butterfly plants and butterflies have been destroyed. There is still a fraction of the dragonfly species diversity and overall numbers that we used to enjoy there.
And the bigger question remains under the new BSAP (Biodiversity strategy and action plan) what is its purpose and role? is it still to educate kids about farming and that insects are either pollinators or pests? or can it take a greater role, perhaps working with the excellent programmes coming out of the HK biodiversity Museum, that has see such success? Watch this space...with hope....
