A feral animal or plant (from Latin fera, "a wild beast") is one that lives in the wild but is descended from domesticated individuals. They have no place in our forests or jungles, and live a life of pain and neglect.
As with an introduced species, the introduction of feral animals disrupts ecosystems and has, in some cases, contributed to extinction of indigenous species. The removal of feral species should be a major focus for protecting our wildlife.
These dogs often have a “blood lust” which means they chase, and kills animals for their pleasure, but often do not eat them. This includes the little local deer, otters, reptiles, civet cats and they even attack the free ranging cattle, and can pose a threat to humans. Packs in the New Territories can be aggressively territorial, which i have encountered first hand.
Like this scavenging dog in a country park, they breed much faster than any catch/neuter/release programme that we dance around. The hard truth is that they should be removed, and controlled in a much more rigorous fashion.
