The "tropical fritillary" in Hong Kong is known as the Indian Fritillary (*Argyreus hyperbius). It is a widespread species with distinctive markings, such as orange and black spots on the male's wings. It is also sometimes called the Hong Kong Fritillary .... this female was found in LNEC.

Scientific Name: Argyreus hyperbius
Other Names: Indian Fritillary, Hong Kong Fritillary, or Chinese Tropical Fritillary
Appearance: Quite some sexual dimorphism...ie difference between males and females....
Males: Yellowish-orange with many black spots on the upper wings, and black wavy patterns on the edge of the hindwings.
Females: Mimic the poisonous Plain Tiger butterfly with black, white, and deep blue tilted stripes at the end of their forewings.
Food Source: Caterpillars feed on plants like Viola betonicifolia and Viola odorata.
