This fish has quite a few names: Scatophagus argus, the spotted scat, butterfish, mia mia, spotted butterfish or tiger scat.
I found this one lying on some concrete near a reservoir, as in the picture. I wondered how it got there, and Paul pointed out you can see beak marks on its body, so it was probably caught and then dropped.
I was intrigued, as I do not know much about the fish of Hong Kong, and I found this one at an estuary, which is a body of water usually found where rivers meet the sea. These areas are home to unique plant and animal communities that have adapted to brackish water—a mixture of fresh water draining from the land and salty seawater.
This fishy mc fish face eats detritus and algae from the sea bottom as well as worms, insects and small crustaceans. It also eats droppings of other animals including ours. Its scientific name 'scatophagus' means 'shit-eater'. Nonetheless, spotted scats are a popular catch among anglers, hmmmmm, "what's for dinner darling?"..."Oh, I caught a tasty shit eater....." nom nom. Juveniles are said to be popular aquarium fish.
