Announcment, starting 1,000 years ago.
Starting November I am changing the format of Wildcreatures Hong Kong a little...
Every Wednesday morning HK time I will post a featured Hong Kong wild animal, with a range of pictures and information. This will alternate between one bug, one mammal, one bird and one reptile (with maybe the occasional sea creature thrown in).
The rest of the time I will put in pictures as I take them, or want to feature them, from animals all over the world, (although most will probably still be Hong Kong wild creatures). Plus I will add in some more photographic details to help you take better pics, so look out for some monthly photo tips and tricks.
Kicking off this new era of discovery I will begin with a picture taken during the Song Dynasty in Hong Kong, about 1,000 years ago (courtesy of AI). Hong Kong was once covered in broad leaf jungle, with roving packs of red dogs and wolves, along with leopards, tigers, and even elephants. The big pythons and wild boar can still be found here, but it was a far, far more dangerous place for the settlers who would eventually arrive to start farming in this land called Hong Kong. Look out for my first mammal blog, where we will learn more about the tigers that used to roam here.
