A nice jumper after Christmas...

sometimes when i am taking pictures of flowers, I find little spiders hidden away. Sometimes these are the crab spiders of my last post, but sometimes they are the Jumping spiders - a group of spiders that constitute the family Salticidae.

Here is one i found on an orchid in Kadoorie Farm.

Now, like those little blue butterflies, or warblers, they can be difficult to tell apart. As of 2019, this family contained over 600 described genera and over 6000 described species, making it the largest family of spiders at 13% of all species. i have two books on spiders in Hong Kong, one of them is just about jumping spiders....256 of them. My educated guess is that this is a Salticidae, and its a Phintella versicolor. Anyone wishing to confirm or deny is welcome to contact me.....!
