A little Blue Jewel
Following up (again?! really?) using a ring flash, here is another example, of a shadowy, forest shot - again, using the The Common Blue Jewel demoiselle as an example.
The flash highlights the foreground, and provides catchlights in the eyes, whilst a shallower depth of field blows out the background the twisting fern, and this image is almost full frame, with only a slight crop.
Here it is cropped to a square.
Even an enhanced crop below shows little noise or loss in quality as a)i shoot in RAW b)the ISO is kept low c)the shutter speed is also around 1/180s
