Macro ring flash

After yesterdays explanation on using a ring flash, here is another example - using the The Common Blue Jewel demoiselle as an example.

We found this beauty on a long hike, along a wooded dark path. You can compare the images below, and the top one was taken using the ring flash, which really highlights the foreground as well as catching the detail in the wings. The lower picture shows the disadvantages of not controlling the light, with harsh sunlight and dark shadows, for this particular image.
