The northern shoveler

The northern shoveler, or really, to keep it simple, referred to as the shoveler. Sounds a bit like a hit TV series where a tough guy enforces the digging of holes. These were shot early morning, hence the lovely light.

These are surface feeing ducks with huge spatulate bills.

These were shot last year.

I have heard that they are OK to eat, but not particularly tasty. But do not try this in HK where all birds are protected. By law.
