The lovely red kite Here I have a blog about UK wildlife, but I will follow up to make it relevant to my HK readers.....with a blog tomorrow on the black kite we have in Hong KOng.

so we start with some pics of The lovely red kite taken in Surrey UK.

This large bird has a reddish-brown body, angled wings and deeply forked tail. This tail is what I use to try and differentiate it from the buzzards. Although looking very fierce it is an opportunistic scavenger, but may also take small mammals. This one below is in a steep dive protecting its nest from other raptors.

This bird has been the subject of a very successful conservation programme as it was saved from national extinction by one of the world's longest-running protection programmes. It has now been successfully re-introduced to England and Scotland.
