The Daurian redstart (Phoenicurus auroreus)

The Daurian redstart (Phoenicurus auroreus) Here is one of Hong Kong's common but pretty birds...like the Robin in the UK, but this is.....The Daurian redstart (Phoenicurus auroreus). It is a migrant, a winter visitor, and a lovely sight in our forests and urban parks at the moment. See them as you walk on the forest paths on Tai Mo Shan.

or at Kadoorie Farm like this one below.

Like all typical redstarts, they are strongly sexually dimorphic, which means the male is quite different in appearance to the female, with the females being warm brown above, paler below.

It was formerly classed as a member of the thrush family (Turdidae), but is now generally considered to be an Old World flycatcher (Muscicapidae).

these two were taken last week at Mai Po

this one was being baited in LNEC
