Despite it's name, I do not see these very often, and then it is a delight to see their brilliant flash of blue, as they shoot down a river, or across a harbour like TKO in Hong Kong.
This photo took a while to get....about 3 days of learning and waiting. I had to push my ISO to over 6400, as she (its a female, as the lighter coloured under bill shows) moves so fast I needed at least 1/2000 of a second to freeze her in action. And fstop of 7.1 at 400mm - and a very heavy crop. phew. But I think it was all worth it for this picture, and not least the other days and shots when I got to see her bathe and hunt and perch.
