Active during the night and day, the Chinese Cobra is one of the more common venomous snakes in Hong Kong. I found this one hunting a toad on Tai Po Kau at night. It followed the toad's scent trail, even as it hopped away, biting the leg, then letting go, then pursuing again, getting a better grip, and then I watched as it swallowed it. With a mouth full of prey I felt it was safe to get quite close, moving slowly, the cobra was aware of me, but was not threatened enough to want to move away.
