Antlered Crane Fly (Tanyptera dorsalis) may look a bit creepy, and even looks like a giant mosquito but they are completely harmless.

unfortunately this one has a slightly damaged antler....

As a crane fly, they are actually flies.

The larvae of crane flies - leatherjackets - are known to eat mosquito larvae. These lovely bugs are usually found in and around water bodies.

In colloquial speech, crane flies are sometimes known as “mosquito hawks” or “daddy longlegs“.

In fact, adult most crane flies don’t feed at all, as they have such a short life span....ahhhhhh
