Scat search.......er, can you help find some poop please.

Can you help find some scat please. Scat is a word used for animal droppings, faeces or poop, specifically for carnivorous wild animal droppings. Greenpeace are running a project where they want to analyse whether there are microplastic particles in the stools of wild mammals in HK. Particularly, barking deer, civet cats. porcupine, macaque, and boars are of interest to Jeffrey Kwok who is running the project.

So how can you help? If you regularly see any of the above animals in SaiKung/Clear Water Bay area then please do let me know and I can put you in touch with Jeffrey who can follow up. They are looking for any specific spots where they might find scat, and are in particular need of any intel on barking deers!

Jeffrey adds "I think large feeding/gathering/lounging spots of civet/muntjacs/boars would be particularly useful as these spots would likely have a higher likelihood of stool accumulation. (We hit the jackpot the other day near Lions Rock when a local villager whom we randomly bumped into pointed us to a curve on the road (literally just like a 50ft stretch) where apparently all the macaques in the area hang out, and it was a macaque stool goldmine}". He can be contacted on jkwok@greenpeace.org

Meanwhile, here is a picture of a spider that mimics bird poop....
