The Daurian redstart (Phoenicurus auroreus) is a small colourful and pretty passerine bird. Here a winter visitor in Mai Po.
Like all typical redstarts, they are strongly sexually dimorphic, which means the male is quite different in appearance to the female, with the females being warm brown above, paler below.
It was formerly classed as a member of the thrush family (Turdidae), but is now generally considered to be an Old World flycatcher (Muscicapidae)
