The other week I went looking for a Black Capped Kingfisher, next to a large Women's prison of all places...but it remained elusive. However, this chappy turned up.
This is the white-throated kingfisher, also known as the white-breasted kingfisher.
Often perched in a tree this is a large stocky kingfisher, with a large bill.
widely distributed in Asia from the Sinai east through the Indian subcontinent to the Philippines, and I have also seen them out in Mai Po over the fish ponds.
