The Scarlet minivet

Nope, its not a very small, highly embarrassed, animal Doctor....the scarlet minivet (Pericrocotus speciosus) is a small passerine bird.

ah, but why is it nor more red coloured, as per the name? ah, well that is 'cos most animals are named after the male of the species....seen here below.

yes, yes, i know, not the greatest pic....but these birds are always hiding....just look at this one below...

She knows i am taking its picture, and deliberately places a branch between us, which is pretty common behaviour for most birds, if i'm honest, but these in particular.

These are usually seen foraging in small groups, high up in the forest canopy.

ps as per the first photo, i will be doing a feature on back-lit birds and other subjects...so stay tuned.
