Laughing in the woods

The masked laughingthrush (Garrulax perspicillatus) is a species of thrush which I often see and hear on my walks.

They bounce around, often on the forest floor, or in low hanging branches, noisily moving through forest or parks, in little groups, often in small noisy flocks of seven. Its Chinese name [七姊妹 qī zǐ-mèi] means 'seven sisters'.

they often appear quite "crested" with ruffled feathers on the head...and the next moment they are all smoothed down, like the greasers on Brighton Pier! A large and attractive bird, that I love to see and watch.
