Actually, that should be with an "umlaut" for the proper German spelling, but hey...the latin spells it that way too....

These large frogs like to keep cool, and can often be found floating near the surface and even in puddles on lily pads, like this one.

Rana guentheri is the Latin name for this large and common Frog, often found in still or slow moving water. Like ponds. And can even be found in some quite dry areas, or even perched in trees.

Seen here in the large lotus pond of Lions nature Education Centre in Saikung, where they were once very common, but pond cleaning seems to have made their numbers drop considerably.
