Along with "common" the other label often given in common names to wildcreatures is "false"; and I use two examples here.
First up is this False Tiger butterfly caterpillar. An interesting chappy, shot here with a white background and also on its food plant, mildweed.
And next up is the False Tiger moth, a beautiful day flying moth. This one I had just pulled out of the pond in Mai Po (I know, I know, I should not interfere in nature, but sometimes I just want to help a poor little moth stuck in the water. So here he is, drying off on the wooden railing of the boardwalk). As i was leaving a hide in Mai Po in mid November, earlier this year, there were maybe 15 of them all flying around me; what a wonderful experience.
