If you go down to the woods today....

....actually, its Lions Nature Education Centre in Sai Kung....but there you will see the birds eating fruit from the trees.

IN this case this was a flock of Crested Bulbul or the Red-whiskered Bulbul (Pycnonotus jocosus).

Here the star fruit has ripened on the trees, and they are eagerly eating the soft flesh.

But it does present a challenge for them to get to it, so it is quite amusing to see their acrobatics, and then they clasp a piece, and pull and turn their heads to try and pull the flesh apart.

They are not only frugivores (fruit eaters), they also enjoy a tasty insect, but these are harder to find at this time of year.

How much star fruit have you had?
