Night time is a wonderful time to explore the hills and streams of Hong Kong. Most of Hong Kong's many snakes are nocturnal, and these two love the water as well.
If you are out at night near a stream - particularly around waterfalls - you may find the Mountain Water Snake out hunting.
This is a Juvenile, very brightly coloured, but these vivid colours fade with age.
They are excellent swimmers and can often be found in large pools.
This little snake below is fully aquatic, living in pools near swift flowing streams, hiding under rocks during the day. Only first recorded in 1974, this is Opisthotropis kuatunensis, the Striped Stream Snake.
