Catching up

The observant amongst you would have seen a delay in some recent blog posts, and despite this being a HK animal focused blog, quite a few UK creatures have been sneaking in. Well, I hope that you have still enjoyed the photography, but I promise I will get back to HK wildlife - even if this means repurposing some posts from 2018 or 2019. I will be back - and allowed out post quarantine - in the HK forests mid September.

One thing i am excited to try in Hong Kong are my trail cam and now my new camera trap. I just received this the other day and here are my first pic results....yes, this is a fox and a badger in a forest near me in England, but i hope to get better and better as i get to grips with this new technology and equipment, and then try this in HK. Something to look forward to!

The red fox is the only fox native to Western Europe, and so is simply called "the fox" in colloquial British English

Badgers are found across the UK, and i was just lucky that this chappy stumbled into my camera trap, but they do love the surrounding woodland and open country. These lovely animals are often hit by cars, and i see a lot as roadkill. They live in a network of underground burrows and tunnels know as a sett.

For comparison, this is an image below taken by my trail cam, and not my camera trap (which uses a DSLR).

Here is a shot of a badger taken live in a forest, when i was out with a guide, near a sett that he knew of.
